This Gray Squirrel was so ferocious this past weekend - chewing big holes on my new wooden bird feeder. When I went outside to shoo him away, he crawled up into the tree and immediately looked so sweet and vulnerable. Hmmm....well I guess I'll be getting a baffle for the new feeder, but I'll leave some peanuts on the ground nearby. I'm a softie.

Shelley - I have definitely found it easier to feed the squirrels rather than fight the squirrels.
Awww - Poor lil monster! hehehe No, I just joking! He does look sweet, but they CAN be a bit mean!
Our squirrels are just a mess but so funny. We try to feed them away from the birds but it doesn't work very well.

Squirrels are so pesky around the bird feeders. We feed them away from the feeders but they sneak in and chase the birds away. Have a wonderful day.

I'm lucky so far this year. Maybe it's because we had a heavy mast crop last fall. BUT--our squirrels stay away from the feeders SO FAR.
Squirrels are cute and you get good pictures. But--they surely are PESKY. (Not my favorite critter!)
Hugs,
Betsy
I just tried to leave a comment I guess maybe PMS? So, anyway, is it possible for you to take a bad photo?
Your photography is amazing. We have another cat missing on the farm.... I wonder if it is the Eagle that keeps flying over our woods. Your banner made me think of that poor kitty. Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to stop back soon.
You are such a softie.

what a cute lil guy! Our puppies like to chase the squirrels off..nice to see one up close again. :)
oh man is he cute...so cute!
Such a tough girl you are!!! He needs to eat too....so cute.
For some reason there haven't been as many squirrels here this winter either. For that I'm glad, as they are such little pigs. But I try to remember that all of mother nature's children need winter food.
I am a softie too!
He must be hungry. Don't worry, I would have done the same thing. Do you still have a lot of snow up by you. All but the snowpiles have melted here.
Yeah..they can be bird feeder killers...
They are tenacious ... and smart: one of the better problem solvers in the animal world. They've pretty much "cracked the code" on every bird feeder design that's out there.
Thank you everyone for visiting and your comments! Something about these squirrels that tug at my heart (except when they're chewing up my birdfeeders faster than a beaver! ha,ha!)
Ashley - This past weekend we had to have the driveway plowed. When we head up to the cabin this weekend - I'm hoping the warmer temps have reduced my 10 foot snow banks to half! ha,ha!
I'll bet you know the answer to this. Well, maybe? Last fall I spotted a teeny-tiny squirrel running through the trees in my back yard but it was different than all the very large squirrels who live around here. He made a nest for himself in the garage and made it through our below zero weather. Today I saw him zipping along, flying from tree to tree. But I wonder where he came from. He is totally different than any other squirrel around here. Seems to appear kind of red & grey. Just teeny and fast as lightning. Any ideas of what kind of squirrel or how he came to be here alone? You are so well-versed on nature, I thought you might have a few answers for me! Thanks! Coralie
are all these your photo's? wow
Shelley,
What a great picture of that ornery little guy!! One can get angry at them but if you are like me I can't stay angry long..esp with animals!!
:)
Coralie - could it have been a red squirrel? Did he have white circles around his eyes?
That is a sweet photo. One of our squirrels (or maybe more) chewed a hole through the lid of the squirrel peanut feeder, for crying out loud. It had gotten stuck after a freezing rain storm, and before I had a chance to un-stick it, the little monster chewed a 2" hole!
