This is a female Red-winged blackbird. She is vastly different from the striking male with his black feathers and red bars on his wings. But still, as I watched the plain female, I decided she had her own quiet beauty.

She certainly does...beauty is in the eye of the beholder....
She's very sweet. Great photograph.
Really! I had no idea they were different. See lots of the males here. A true sign of spring when they arrive.
Very very different. We posted the same bird today, only I had a male. And he is very small in the picture!

Cheers!
Wow, I had no idea that the female looked like that. I always seem to learn something new everyday.
she surely is beautiful. I never tire of watching birds.
Great capture.
I was wondering what these lil guys were...I have a few of them around my bird feeders. Great Shot!
Hey Shelley, The female Red-winged Blackbird is VERY different from the male. WOW!!!!! It's like the differences between the Roes-breasted Grosbeak male and female....
As a new birder, I sure have learned alot about birds this past year.
Hugs,
Betsy
Nice looking bird and beautiful snap.
I would not have immediately associated her with her partner, but as you stated, she has her own beauty.
Beautiful!
I am a big fan of quiet beauty.
What a sweet picture! We have both at our feeders quite a bit this year. Same with the cowbirds!
Oh, and I got so excited today, because we had 2 rose breasted grosbeaks at our feeder (finally!)
The first time you see the female it is hard to believe they go together. You would think she would at least be black. You captured her very well.
