Ready to launch

nuthatch launch

The White-breasted Nuthatch is a comical bird in my opinion. With the way he creeps down the tree headfirst and his nasal "what, what" call to let you know he's arrived. In the winter you will often find them "hanging out" with the Black-capped Chickadees at the feeders.

Shelley,
You are so right..they are comical to watch..and they are so fast to move from one part of the trunk to another. Such a clean shot, not a mark in the snow on the top of the post, this looked like he staged this for you!!

yes they are comical!

Shelley, Isn't he just beautiful??? Almost EVERY picture I've ever seen of a nuthatch looks like they are getting ready to launch (and they probably ARE).
Hugs,
Betsy

what a little cutie! great shot, too. now why can't i have cute, non-destructive birds like this instead of pigeons that poop everywhere and woodpeckers!

Yes, comical is a good description of this bird. Love his photo in the snow!

Now this is a bird I love to watch. They are so cute. They take a seed at a time and fly away. It's hard for me to get a picture. So I will enjoy yours.

Both the Red Breasted and White Breasted Nuthatches are here too. I absolutely love their little squeaky sounds. That is an amazing close up!

You've really got some great photos! I couldn't decide which of your posts to leave a comment on!
I'm thinking about heading over to Hartwick Pines State Park soon to go snowshoeing. Hopefully all the snow we have will last - and keep coming!

Wonderful photography! I'm originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan so know first-hand the beauty that abounds. You've captured much of it in your pictures so thank you!

Cedar - I miss the red breasted ones - so far no luck at the cabin.

nature girl - thank you! You are in my thoughts.

Mona - the birdies will be waiting for you this spring! (Is that when you head back to the UP?)

MS. Hays - they do have quite the claws on them - eh? LOL!

Joey - thank you!

Tami- they are fun to watch!

Nina - I was hoping the weather would be warmer this week as we wanted to snow shoe hartwick pines too! Hopefully when we're back up next.

Mimi - must be cold where you are!

Comical and a handsome bird, too! You're right, I've noticed how they hang out with the Chickadees. The birds offer some entertainment during our drab months. Great shot!

Hi Shelly,

That is a great shot. I just captured a Black-capped chickadee, which is due to show up on my site wed am.

I have seen these fellows on the trunks of trees. They move really fast, you are lucky indeed.
