There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in storm.
~Willa Cather
Here is my Loon chick - all grown up and getting ready to migrate. The night he was born, there was a huge storm on the lake and his sibling didn't make it. The lake was full of predators such a Pike, Eagles and snapping turtles. But with his parents help, he was able to dodge danger . There were jet skiers and boats that sometimes came too close - but still he was able to avoid them and dive under the water just in time.
And now as I let out a sigh of relief, I realize that he made it! He will live and have a family of his own someday. Life is good.

How awesome is that! What a beautiful baby he is too. Thank goodness one of them made and the family will continue on.
I sure wish I could listen to a Loon again!
Hi Shelley, That little loon is just precious. I'm glad he made it... Hope he can take care of himself from now on. Do they migrate????
Hugs,
Betsy
How nice that you have that shot of the loon! Will you be able to recognize it next season? Do they return to the same lake? Great story!
It is amazing how fast our children grow!
Shelley,
What a beautiful photo and I'm so sorry to hear his sibling didn't make it. Have a great weekend.
hugs,
Pam
neat post! isnt it amazing how attached you become to these gifts of nature. I to was able to share in this, this season with my baby robins.
It's amazing to think sometimes that anything DOES survive-the odds against them are incredible.
Lovely photo, Shelley
This is so beautiful and makes my heart sing - my favourite piece of music is "Call of the loons" and I play it all the time.
A wonderful post about a truely beautiful loon.

Glad he made it. A year ago I couldn't have said what a loon looked like, and now I even know what they sound like. You drew my attention to these wonderful loons. I wish I could hear the loons in person.
